Firefighters rescue man from trapped car in Hercules

Firefighters from Contra Costa County, Rodeo-Hercules and Pinole responded to a report of an accident shortly after 8 a.m. They found the vehicle on top of a drainage pipe about 100 feet down an embankment from the road, officials said.

Firefighters and officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a person trapped in a vehicle on state Highway 4 near the Franklin Canyon Golf Course around 8:10 a.m., Pinole fire Battalion Chief Steve Akre said.
Fire fighters had to use a rope rescue system to lift the man back to the road, where he was then airlifted to a hospital with serious head, chest, and extremity injuries. Even after surgery, the man is still in critical condition.
