California crash kills 2 teenage girls, injures another

MARTINEZ, Calif. (AP) California authorities say two teenage girls were killed and another seriously injured in a crash near Highway 4. The Oakland Tribune reports that California Highway Patrol Officer John Fransen says the 16-year-old driver indicated that she may have fallen asleep just before 3 a.m. Highway Patrol did not immediately identify the passengers, who were 15- and 16-year-old Martinez residents. Police say they don't think drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. Fransen says the two passengers were killed when she crashed into a tree.

One of the sweetest ones," Heim's friend Katlyn Foreman said.The CHP does not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. The song is expected to be dedicated to those girls.Counselors were at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill to help students cope."She was perfect. She was my perfect match." That's how her boyfriend described Marley Heim, killed in an early morning accident Sunday after the car she was riding in hit a tree along Franklin Canyon.Lauren Smith, 15, also died."Now she's not going to be here anymore.
