Pedestrians Hanako (Hana) Abe, 27, and Elizabeth Platt, 60, killed in hit-and-run collision at Second and Mission in San Francisco, California

Two people have died from critical injuries sustained in a hit-and-run collision in San Francisco’s South of Market on New Year’s Eve and authorities have arrested the driver, who was on parole and allegedly driving a stolen car.

Thursday night, Hana and a woman she did not know were both killed after being struck by stolen car driven while walking in the crosswalk on Second Street at Mission Street.

Troy Ramon McAlister, a 45-year-old city resident who was released from a state prison sentence for robbery on April 10, was not charged with new crimes by the District Attorney’s Office after any of last year’s arrests, the most recent of which occurred on Dec. 20.

We are close family friends setting up this fundraiser to help Hana’s family with the cost of travel and funeral expenses so her mother and little brother can fly to the US and “bring her back”, transport her body back to Japan. 

Alison said her family would like to hear from anyone who knew their sister so they can find an appropriate place to hold a service, when it’s safe, in San Francisco.

Mrs. Abe said her daughter came to San Francisco for college to deepen her understanding for people of all backgrounds, in a city where "people recognize each other."
