One person killed and several people injured when vehicle crashes into Grand Century Plaza at Story and McLaughlin in San Jose, California
Nine people altogether, including the 69-year-old driver of the 2000 Toyota 4-Runner, suffered injuries ranging from “major to minor” when the elderly driver accidentally accelerated while trying to park at the Grand Century Plaza at Story and McLaughlin Roads in east San Jose, police said.
A person died Monday of their injuries after an elderly woman pressed the gas instead of the brakes in her SUV Sunday, hitting a pedestrian and crashing against an outdoor dining area, authorities said.
San Jose Police say the driver lost control of his car, jumped the curb in the parking lot of the Grand Century Shopping Center, crossed the road and careened into a tent full of customers at Dynasty Chinese Seafood Restaurant.
Mall surveillance video obtained by KPIX 5 shows the driver of an SUV jumping two curbs and crossing four lanes of traffic before plowing into the diners.
