A man died in a single-car crash Sunday morning on Interstate 80, and a good Samaritan trying to help him was critically injured after being hit by another vehicle. A total of three collisions happened in the same area. The fatal collision happened about 5:50 a.m. when a man driving a Honda Accord westbound on I-80 swerved into a pillar at San Pablo Dam Road. Another driver stopped in front of the burning vehicle and tried to put out the flames with his fire extinguisher, and was hit by another car. The man was transported to John Muir Medical Center, where he is being treated for severe injuries but is expected to survive.
