Highway 37 reopen after fatal big-rig crash

Highway 37 east of Lakeville Highway was open early Thursday after a fatal accident involving tanker trucks closed it for more than eight hours the night before. A California Highway Patrol dispatcher said the road east of Lakeville Highway was opened just before midnight. The impact pushed the stopped truck into four other vehicles but caused no additional injuries, according to initial reports. Caltrans lifted a sig-alert advisory at 12:15 a.m., the dispatcher said. Caltrans crews worked into the night clearing debris and spilled diesel, the CHP said.

Big-rig driver who died in crash failed to stop for traffic ahead

A big-rig driver who died in a collision on eastbound state Highway 37 in Sonoma County on Wednesday afternoon failed to stop for vehicles that had stopped ahead of him, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. The Mack truck driver, Jagtar Singh, 56, of Pittsburg, and the drivers of the three smaller vehicles were not injured, while Alexander died at the scene. The driver was identified today by the Sonoma County coroner's office as Eric Alexander, 43, of Tulare in the Central Valley. Traffic was diverted to Lakeville Highway and back to Highway 37 and state Highway 121. Eastbound traffic drove in the center divider of the highway to bypass the scene, according to Barclay.
