Pilot killed in Santa Barbara County plane crash

A pilot has been found dead in a small airplane that crashed in the southeastern Santa Barbara County backcountry. The mayday triggered a response by Santa Barbara and Ventura counties and the Coast Guard because it was not certain whether the plane went down on land or the ocean. The county Sheriff's Office says authorities received a report of a mayday call involving engine trouble around 10 p.m. 

UPDATE: Second victim found in Santa Barbara County plane crash

The second victim was found with the help of Sheriff's Search and Rescue team members and County Air Support personnel in a remote area near Don Victor Trail.  Both men are believed to be in their 50s or 60s. Their names have not yet been released.
