One person was killed in a small plane crash in the Ventura County mountains on Saturday, officials said. The crash took place in the south mountain area of Santa Paula, Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Pete Jensen said. Officials said it appears there was only one person inside the plane at the time of the crash.

A small plane has crashed in the Ventura County mountains near Santa Paula, killing the pilot. Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration says a passer-by found the wreckage of a twin-engine Cessna 337 on Saturday about four miles southeast of the Santa Paula airport. He says the plane apparently crashed several days ago. It's unclear when and where the plane took off. TV reports show the wreckage on the side of a hill.

Pilot killed in Santa Paula plane crash identified(link is external)

The pilot killed in the crash of a twin-engine plane in oil fields north of Los Angeles has been identified. The Ventura County Star says 82-year-old James Breeding of Ojai was killed when his Cessna 337 crashed four miles southeast of the Santa Paula Airport. The Ventura Star says Breeding was trying to sell the plane. The wreckage was discovered Saturday afternoon by a passerby who spotted it on the side of a hill.
