The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of a deadly crash of a motorcycle trying to avoid hitting a garbage truck early Thursday morning in Mandarin. Police said a Waste Pro garbage truck was pulling out of the Village Green complex of townhouses at 6:35 a.m. when a motorcycle southbound on Old St. Augustine Road went down trying to avoid hitting the truck. The motorcyclist, 25-year-old Robert Bentley III, died at the scene of the crash. Fog may have been a factor, according to police. Police said the driver of the garbage truck failed to see the motorcycle and pulled into its path. Police said Bentley was not wearing a helmet. Both southbound lanes of Old St. Augustine Road just south of Crown Point Road were detoured to San Jose Boulevard until just after 11 a.m.
