2 killed in rear-end crash on SR-50 in Orange County

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, a 1997 Chrysler van with its emergency hazard lights flashing was headed east in the right land of the roadway at about 4:35 p.m.

A 2007 Toyota Tundra traveling in the same direction "failed to slow in time" and struck the back of the Chrysler van, FHP said.

Both occupants of the van — a 54-year-old male driver from Frostproof and a 43-year-old woman from Orlando — were pronounced dead at the scene.

The two were in a Chrysler van with the hazard lights on heading east on Colonial Drive near Hodges Boulevard, Montes said. It was about 4:35 p.m.

Troopers do not know whether the van was stopped or moving when a 32-year-old Cocoa man rear-ended it with his Toyota Tundra, Montes said.

The Toyota driver was taken to Parrish Medical Center in Titusville with minor injuries, Montes said.
