Susan Roberts Murphy, 69, killed when she is struck by her own van after it slipped into reverse in parking lot in Manatee County, Florida

A 69-year-old Manatee County woman died Friday afternoon from injuries sustained in a parking lot accident. Susan Roberts Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene just after 4:30 p.m. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report Murphy has just finished shopping at BJ’s Wholesale Club and was loading items into the front passenger side of her 2001 Chrysler Town and Country van when the vehicle started moving in reverse for unknown reasons. Murphy fell under the vehicle and was struck on the head and body by the front right tire. The retail development is located in the 8000 block of Cooper Creek Blvd. in southern Manatee County. No other injuries were reported. The van came to stop when it struck a curb. The official cause of the fatal accident is not yet known as the investigation continues.
