After getting involved in a crash Sunday at the intersection of Hypoluxo and Thompson roads in Boynton Beach, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies told Catelyn Kirchner that her car would be towed following an inventory search of the vehicle.
Before deputies conducted the search, Kirchner told them there was a Xanax pill inside the car, according to a probable cause affidavit. Kirchner said she had a prescription for the narcotic.
When a deputy searched the car, they found more than a pill.
“As soon as I opened the door, I noticed between one and a half and two dozen cockroaches all over her small baby’s diaper bag and opened box of baby formula,” the deputy wrote.
Continuing his search, the deputy found a prescription bottle for hydrocodone in the glove compartment and a vodka bottle that was three-quarters empty on the floor board under the feet of Kirchner’s baby. The arrest report does not list the age of Kirchner’s child.
Kirchner, 24, faces charges of child abuse without great bodily harm and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Kirchner posted a $4,500 bond and was released from jail about 5 p.m. Monday.
