Man killed in Lamborghini street-racing crash in Florida was 82-year-old Uber driver

Investigators with Delray Beach say the driver of the Lamborghini, identified as 60-year-old Roger Wittenberns of Delray Beach, was speeding down the street along with his girlfriend, who was at the wheel of a Porsche. The speed limit on the street is 35 miles per hour.

Nearby residents say the intersection, located just one block north of Atlantic Avenue, a main thoroughfare in downtown Delray, is known for speeding, wrong-way driving and crashes.

Wittenberns’ comments stood in contrast to witnesses’ statements, who told police they saw the Lamborghini speeding, court records show.

The suit focuses on two luxury waterfront homes in Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. The legal filing says Wittenberns sold the properties and held the mortgages.

Meanwhile, Wittenberns faces several criminal charges, including DUI manslaughter. He was arrested June 12 and released on $450,000 bond the following day.

“I’m 61 years old. I’m not a speed demon,” Wittenberns said in a recorded police interview hours after the crash. “At my age, you buy a Lamborghini because it looks cool.”

 Wittenberns’ trial on DUI manslaughter and other charges[4] could be scheduled during a hearing later this month. He remains on house arrest at his $2 million estate home in Delray under the terms of a $450,000 bond.
