Josephine Lopez, 61, killed, Shannon Patterson injured, after two car crash at intersection in Port St. Lucie.

Port St. Lucie Police are investigating a traffic crash that killed a 61-year-old woman Wednesday morning. Officers responded to the intersection of S.W. Hunnicut Avenue and S.W. Savona Boulevard just before 9 a.m. in response to a serious crash involving a 2004 Saturn Ion driven by Josephine Lopez, 61, of Port St. Lucie and a 2011 Toyota Prius driven by Shannon Patterson. Police say the initial investigation into the crash revealed that Lopez failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection, causing Patterson to collide with Lopez's vehicle. Lopez was airlifted to Lawnwood Hospital where she died from blunt force trauma to the chest. Police say Lopez was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The investigation continues into the crash but police say no charges are expected at this point.
