Justin Deems, 25, dead, 5 injured in explosion at JCG Farms in Rockmart, Georgia
Explosion at Rockmart facility kills 1, injures several others
During a press conference Sunday morning, Polk County officials reported the blast happened around 2:30 a.m. at the facility on Rome Hwy/GA-101, causing a structural collapse on the property. The explosion resulted in a fatality and sent several others to local area hospitals. One person had to be airlifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta.
As of 9 a.m., officials said that remaining flames at the facility had been contained and all personnel accounted for, but now, investigators are concerned about additional collapses. As a precaution, structural engineers are being called out to check the buildings. If everything is given the all-clear, officials say they will re-open Highway 101.
UPDATE: One dead, several injured in Rockmart explosion
Polk County coroner Tony Brazier said that Justin Deems, 25, of a Rockmart address, was likely killed instantly in the explosion around 2:30 a.m., but said autopsy results would confirm this.
Brazier said Beems' body will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy.
Why every fatality from a crash is not legally a wrongful death
After someone dies in a motor-vehicle accident, grieving family members and friends are often left with many questions. What caused the accident? Could it have been avoided? What do they do now that their loved one is gone?
Sometimes a fatal collision happens through no one's fault. Crashes caused by weather and road conditions, or by wildlife in the roadway, are examples. But when a fatal crash is caused by negligence, then family members should pursue a wrongful death claim, to uphold the victim's rights and begin the financial recovery process.
