Deputy Christopher Burkhardt injured when his patrol car is rear-ended on I-69.

Madison County officials say a deputy's vehicle was hit early Saturday morning on Interstate 69. It happened just after 4 a.m. near the 215 mile marker. The sheriff's department says Deputy Christopher Burkhardt was investigating a crash when he was rear-ended by a car. The driver of that car and one other person were taken to St. Vincent Hospital North East. The driver was being checked for driving while impaired. The deputy was also taken to the hospital for back pain. Burkhardt has been with the department for 6 years.
