"The other three boys were actually walking in front of him, just by a few feet, so they weren’t looking at him at the time he stepped onto the road. It’s possible that he stumbled, we really have no idea why he took that action," Mellinger said.
Shortly before 6:00pm, 14-year-old Pierce Resler was walking with three other people on State Road 13 when he for some reason stepped into the roadway, and into the path of a vehicle driven by Zachary Moran, 19. Resler was struck, severely injured, and pronounced dead after being airlifted to the hospital. Moran is unlikely to be cited.
