According to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Delbert Miller, 71, of St. Paul, was driving westbound on I-74 at mile marker 124 around 4:40 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle crossed the median and collided head-on with an SUV.
Witnesses reported seeing Miller approaching in the passing lane and swerving into the median at the last minute. A third vehicle hit the axle of Miller’s car after the initial impact of the first two cars, police said. As a result of the impact, Miller was thrown from the vehicle and the SUV flipped, coming to rest on its top side. Miller was killed as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. Wright-Marksberry climbed out of the back window of her car and was later airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital via Stat Flight helicopter due to lower leg and possible head injuries.
