2 injured early Wednesday in East Topeka
The area where the car came to rest -- immediately north of the on-ramp from Rice Road to westbound Interstate 70 -- was covered with tall grass, weeds, brush and small trees. The wrecked car wasn’t visible from the roadway.
Wempe said the female driver told officers the crash occurred while there was still daylight on Tuesday, though an exact time wasn’t given.

Early Wednesday, the woman was able to get out of the car and crawl up the embankment through the weeds and brush. She ended up near the southwest corner of S.E. 10th and Rice Road, where an officer from the Topeka Correctional Facility saw her.
