Lexington hit-and-run trial begins

The trial for a former Lexington firefighter, charged in a hit-and-run crash began on Tuesday. Espino, a National Guard soldier from Guam, was in Lexington for training. He was critically injured in the crash and spent 16 weeks at UK Hospital. The trial is expected to finish sometime on Wednesday. Police say last September, Jarad McCargo hit Noel Espino outside the Beer Trappe, before crashing into the building.

A Lexington firefighter has been charged in a hit-and-run crash at a bar late Friday night.

According to Patterson, the vehicle hit a U.S. soldier who was outside the building and then crashed into the crowded bar.

McCargo backed over a curb at a high rate of speed and struck a male that was seated at a café table in front of a business before driving into the building. He i currently charged with DUI and Leaving the Scene of an Accident, though more charges are pending. The pedestrian was hospitalized with life threatening injuries.
