According to Hobbs police, Alfredo Ramirez, of Hobbs, was standing in the middle of Turner Street at around 7:30 p.m. when he stepped into the southbound lane and was struck by a pickup truck driven by David Shubert, of Kermit, Texas.
Ramirez was taken to Lea Regional Medical Center before being pronounced dead. Police suspect Ramirez may have been under the influence of alcohol. Shubert will likely not be charged.
