The oil field site belongs to Mesquite SWD in Carlsbad and the company working on the site was Warrior Wireline, according to the sheriff's office.

Oil field blast kills one worker, injures another in New Mexico

The dead man was identified as James Rusty Harrison, who was in his early 40s. Co-worker Tyler Winter, in his mid-20s, suffered shrapnel wounds to his torso and right leg and was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, about 150 miles to the northeast, authorities said.
The accident happened when workers were loading material into perforated pipe being installed into a drilling pipe in southern Lea County, New Mexico on Wednesday. As-yet-unknown factors caused an explosion, and metal debris from the blast struck the victims. James Rusty Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene, and Tyler Winters was airlifted to Lubbock.The oilfield is in the area of NM 128 and Orla Road near Hobbs. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
