Two people killed in Rail Runner train accident

A spokesperson for Rail Runner says about 90 people were on board the train, which was heading southbound toward Albuquerque, when the accident took place. There is no word on whether anyone aboard the train was injured.

Augusta Meyers, a spokeswoman for the Rail Runner, said there were about 90 people on board when the southbound train crashed into a vehicle. None of the train’s passengers were injured, she said.

Tenorio was heading east, toward State Road 313, in a 2014 Jeep Cherokee and tried to drive across a railroad crossing when the train crashed into the vehicle, according to an initial investigation.

The initial investigation indicates a 2014 Jeep Cherokee SUV, driven by Derrick Tenorio (30) of Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM, was traveling east on a private road towards State Road 313.
