L.I. man injured, baby unharmed in fiery collision

A Long Island man and his infant daughter miraculously survived a fiery car crash that left another man dead, officials said Saturday. The driver of the Jeep Liberty died at the scene and has not been identified. Witnesses told police the Jeep Liberty was heading toward New York when it crossed over the yellow line, struck Hughes' pickup and burst into flames. Dylan Hughes was driving a Ford pickup truck east on Montauk Highway with his 6-month-old daughter when an oncoming Jeep Liberty slammed into it in East Moriches about 8:40 p.m. Hughes, 24, managed to flee his truck with his daughter and suffered only minor injuries, officials said.
