Several members of an honor guard from Fort Bragg heading to a military funeral near Charlotte were critically injured Friday morning in a collision with a log truck near Laurinburg, authorities said.

According to a Highway Patrol spokesman John, two were air-lifted to Chapel Hill in critical condition and the other eight were taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

Three of those kept in Laurinburg were in critical but stable condition and one was in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the van, Richard Horton Jr., failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and pulled into the path of a big loaded with logs.

Five soldiers were trapped inside.
