Chesterland man dies after struck by car Sunday in Painesville Township

His Americab Transportation cab was found along U.S. 20 near Blase Nemeth Road. It's unclear why Cahn left the car and ran across the highway.

Cahn was observed crossing the roadway by the witness and then ran into the eastbound lanes of North Ridge Road, at which time the driver of the Volkswagen attempted to swerve out of the way but was unable to avoid striking Cahn.

The driver of the Volkswagen was not injured as a result of the accident and there was no evidence discovered that alcoholic beverage consumption contributed to this accident.

The accident is still under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Jerry D. Cahn, a 78-year-old taxi driver, left his cab along U.S. 20 near Blase Nemeth Road and ran out in to traffic. He was struck by a Volkswagon Jetta, and then taken to a local medical center where he succumbed to his injuries. Investigators are currently unsure why Cahn decided to leave his vehicle, but they do not believe alcohol was involved. More information will be posted as it is released.
