An Avon Lake man has been charged with aggravated vehicular assault after he fled the scene of an accident and seriously injured a woman who was driving to work, police said. Alexander Potoczak, 22, was driving an Audi on Bradley Road in Westlake when he hit another car around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and fled the scene, police said. "He took off, struck another car and caused some serious injury to the other driver," said Capt. Guy Turner, public information officer for the Westlake police department. The second car was driven by a 28-year-old Westlake woman who was on her way to St. John Medical Center for work, Turner said. The Westlake woman suffered extensive pelvic injuries, a police report said, and was flown to Akron Hospital for treatment. Potoczak was intoxicated at the time of the accident, police said. He faces an aggravated vehicular assault charge and is scheduled to be arraigned in Rocky River Municipal Court on Jan. 21. The charge is a felony, which means it will likely be bound over to Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
