Man charged in pedestrians hit-and-run death

Yesterday, the sheriff’s office said officers located the vehicle suspected of hitting Crockett with help from Columbus police and tips from concerned citizens.
A Columbus man was charged in the Friday evening hit-and-run death of 21-year-old William D. Crockett who was trying to cross Westerville Road just north of Dempsey Road at about 7:20 p.m. when he was hit by a Toyota Corolla. Crockett, was not crossing in a marked crosswalk, and was pronounced dead after being taken to Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital. Police located the suspect vehicle on Saturday after receiving tips from local citizens.  Jason W. Powell, 36, of Columbus, was arrested and charged with failure to stop after an accident and tampering with evidence.
