Pedestrian Killed In 2nd Prairie Township Crash Saturday

Franklin County sheriff's deputies are investigating a second fatal crash in Prairie Township Saturday morning. Witnesses called 911 and stayed with Jeffers while others followed the suspect vehicle until it was stopped by deputies.
At about 3:25 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a crash on Norton Road at West Broad Street involving a car and a pedestrian. Authorities claim a 1998 Nissan Altima was driving eastbound on West Broad Street when it struck 35-year-old Freddy L. Jeffers Jr, of London. The car continued eastbound on Norton after striking Jeffers. Jeffers was sent to Doctor's West Hospital where he died approximately an hour later. The driver of the Nissan has been identified as Steven J. Mays, 31, of Hilliard. Mayes was charged with Hit-Skip, which is a 3rd degree felony, and sent to the Franklin County jail. Investigators say alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
