A man was injured when his vehicle crashed into a train in the City of New Lexington early Sunday morning.

A man was injured when his vehicle crashed into a train in the City of New Lexington early Sunday morning.

Troopers from the Lancaster post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol say Michael W. Brindgardner, 55, of New Lexington was traveling northbound on High Street at about 2:35 a.m. Sunday when he failed to stop at a railroad crossing.

His vehicle struck a train traveling eastbound at approximately 8 mph. Officials confirm the railroad crossing signals were fully operational with flashing red lights and a red stop gate.

Brindgardner was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash, according to troopers.

Brindgardner was transported to Fairfield Medical Center in non-life threatening conditions. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor at this time.

This crash remains under investigation.
