Myriam Fernandez, 35, was driving a 2005 Toyota Carolla crossing north on Champions across Mesa St. around 6:50 p.m. Thursday, February 9 when her car was hit by a 2007 Honda Accord driven by 23-year-old Manuel Watkins.

Manuel Watkins, 23, was originally charged with "Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury." In the wake of Fernandez's death, Watkins was charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter.
