A police officer suffered minor injuries after crashing his patrol car during a high-speed chase through northeast Houston. It started around 5:15 a.m. Saturday, when an HPD officer ran the plate of a pickup truck that ran a stop sign on Kress Street. According to officers, the plate came back as stolen, so the officer attempted to pull the truck over. Police said the driver refused to stop and sped off, leading police on a high-speed chase in and out of residential streets in several neighborhoods. At some point during the chase, officers said the suspect lost control of the truck and crashed into a parked pickup on Harbor. The suspect got out of the car and ran away on foot, police said. During the chase, one of the HPD units pursuing the suspect lost control when his brakes failed at the corner of Lathrop and Wallisville, and he crashed into the corner of a business building. According to reports, the officer just had minor bumps and bruises from the accident. His name was not immediately released.
