One person died and another was in critical condition after a rollover crash early Wednesday on Interstate 10 in East Bexar County.

The wreck occurred when a man driving a pickup westbound just before 1 a.m. in the 13000 block of the highway tried to pass another vehicle, said a spokeswoman for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

In the process, the pickup rear-ended a trailer that was being towed by another pickup, police said.

The pickup without the trailer lost control and rolled over in the grassy median between the main lanes and the access road, Hughes said.

The man in that pickup and his passenger, another man, were both ejected, police said. Deputies have not determined whether they were wearing seat belts.

The driver of the pickup with the trailer was not injured.

Both men who had been ejected were taken by ambulance to San Antonio Military Medical Center. One of the two later died and the other was in critical condition, police said.

The men have not been identified and deputies are still investigating which one was driving, police said.
