Young man killed in street racing wreck

A young man in his 20s was killed early Friday during what was believed to be a street racing wreck on the city's Northwest Side.

Shawn Smith Verdin, 20, was killed while street racing on Loop 1604 and Braun Road in San Antonio, Texas. Police say the victim and another driver were racing in the southbound lanes of Loop 1604 at around 2 a.m. Friday, and as they approached the Braun Road intersection, both cars went around a large truck that was also traveling in the southbound lanes.
