East Texas HS football player killed in crash, brother injured

Nikalas Wisinger, an 18-year-old junior linebacker for the Bears, was killed around 7:45 a.m., when the SUV he was in rolled on Highway 2685, also known as Pritchett Highway, on his way to school. His brother John Tristian Wisinger, 16, was injured in the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment where he is reported to be in stable condition.

The vehicle was headed southbound on 2685 near Scarlett Road when the vehicle left the road and rolled several times, partially ejecting Nikalas. Tristian was driving the SUV at the time of crash. Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Rhonda Welch pronounced Nikalas dead at the scene.  The high school is currently working with a local bank to get a fund set up for expenses for the family.

What every family needs to know about Texas wrongful death claims

When someone is killed in a car, truck, bicycle, pedestrian, or other kind of accident, family members left behind must cope with the tragedy as best they can. Many important decisions need to be made, and a wrongful death claim needs to be filed.

In Texas, a claim can be filed only by specific family members, but there are strict requirements and deadlines that must be met. It is critical to talk with a Texas wrongful death lawyer to get the information and advice needed to move forward.
