18 wheeler overturns carrying thousands of live chickens

An 18-wheeler carrying thousands of live chickens has overturned in Bryan, according to police there. Pictures show the transporter stacked high with birds, laying on its side at the intersection of U.S. 21 and FM 2818. Many of the cages appear to have broken open leaving dead chickens in a pile at the side of the road. Officer Kelley McKethan of Bryan Police said the driver was unhurt in the accident. The vehicle tipped over while turning from U.S. 21 onto the feeder road.

The truck driver wasn't injured. The roadway will briefly be closed so the chickens could be removed. According to area officials, 18-wheelers often pass through carrying large numbers of chickens to a nearby farm.
