2 men dragged from wrecked car just before it catches fire in Kearns

"That tree played a key role in keeping the car from penetrating into the church, where there was a funeral going on inside", Lt. Ken Hansen said.

At around 1:20 Saturday afternoon on Sam's Boulevard (5240 South) near 4200 West in Kearns when a speeding westbound car driving veered off the road, jumped a curb, went through two fences, and across the front lawn of a church before slamming into a tree and bursting into flames. A funeral was taking place inside the church, and bystanders and a person inside the funeral who heard the sound of the collision ran outside and pulled the two men from the burning vehicle. Speed was a factor. We'll update this story with more information as it becomes available.
