Utah man sentenced to prison for driving drunk during fatal collision

A Bountiful man who killed a motorcyclist in South Salt Lake while driving drunk has been sentenced to prison for up to five years. Terrance Desmond Wheeler, 40, was turning his car left into the driveway of a convenience store near 600 West and 3900 South on Oct. 18, 2014, when he collided with a motorcycle driven by 39-year-old Justin Greaves, according to charges filed in 3rd District Court. Blood tests showed Wheeler had a blood alcohol level of 0.13 percent, over the legal driving limit of 0.08. His blood also tested positive for THC metabolite, charges state. Wheeler was charged with third-degree felony automobile homicide, class B misdemeanor driving with a measurable amount of metabolite in the body and class C misdemeanor failure to yield (left turn).

South Salt Lake police identify dead motorcyclist

Police said it appeared the rider tried unsuccessfully to lay the motorcycle on its side to avoid the collision.

Justin Greaves, 39, of West Valley City died at the scene when he laid his bike down to avoid a car turning left into his path while attempting to enter a gas station at  3900 South, 500 West in South Salt Lake, Utah.  Graves was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
