MAN DIES AFTER RIVER RAFT CAPSIZED IN SULTAN RIVER
"Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a missing rafter in the Lake Chaplain area of Sultan on Saturday afternoon," said Lt. Norm Link.
A raft containing four people flipped upside-down on some rapids in the Sultan River near Lake Chaplain shortly after 4:00 p.m. While three of the rafters were successfully rescued, one 38-year-old male rafter was found dead downstream, and was not wearing a life jacket. The river was full of kayakers and rafters that day because of some maintenance on the Culmback dam, which involved opening a valve that would increase the water level of the Sultan River. The victim's identity has not yet been released; check back for updates.
