Olympia driver, 22, arrested after serious downtown accident
Olympia police arrested a 22-year-old Olympia man Thursday in connection with an early morning downtown hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian, damaged several parked cars, including a police car, and tied up downtown traffic most of the day.
An Olympia police officer was parked on the 400 block of Fourth Avenue when he heard a car driving at a high speed. The car, a white Acura, lost control and hit several parked cars, including the officer’s car. The car also struck a woman in her 20s who was crossing the road near Jefferson Street. The 22-year-old driver of the Acura fled on foot. The officer was not injured and chased the man for eight blocks before losing sight of him behind a building. The driver was located after his mother, the registered owner of the Acura, was contacted by police. He was booked into Thurston County Jail for vehicular assault, but could face more charges. The pedestrian was seriously injured and flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she had surgery Thursday morning.5 ways to help the survivor of a pedestrian accident After someone is seriously injured in a pedestrian accident, their life is put on hold as they deal with the aftermath – pain from injuries, possible hospitalization, surgery, or rehabilitation, endless doctor visits – and growing medical bills.
