Head-on crash kills Maple Falls man on Mt. Baker Highway

State Patrol Sgt. Mark Francis says a BMW driven by a 22-year-old Deming man was heading westbound on SR 542 near Everson Goshen Rd. behind a truck around 4 p.m. when he attempted a legal pass around the truck. Francis says the BMW then struck a Saturn traveling eastbound head-on. The 44-year-old Saturn driver was killed, but hasn’t been identified. The truck took minor damage when the BMW pivoted back into it during the accident, but the truck driver was unhurt.
