Couple dies after being hit by 1,200-pound hay bales
The Minnesota State Patrol is conducting a full reconstruction of the crash as part of the investigation. Nielson said it's possible that the driver could face criminal charges related to careless driving or even criminal vehicular homicide.
Teresa and Dale Erickson were riding in a pickup truck on Houston County Road 9 when a bale of hay fell off of a semi-trailer that was driving in front of them, causing the truck to veer out of control. The pickup landed in a ditch and caught fire. Both people were seriously injured and transported to a hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin where they both later died. The driver of the semi could face charges for not properly securing the load of hay bales.
