I was there right after it happened. I arrived before the police did. I saw the lifeless bodies lying in the road. No one was wearing a helmet. Such a tragedy.

Melinda, is there a way to contact you in regards to this? I know one of the people killed personally.

I am a family member of the motorcycle driver that lost his life this horrible day. Helmets would not have saved either life according to the report given to our families. Please have respect for both Bruce and Sharlene's families who are grieving during this time and not post comments about the deceased not wearing helmets.

My boyfriend and I were first on the scene, he called 911 and I visually assessed the condition of the cyclists and verbally assessed the driver while other bystanders helped to get the dog out until emergency response teams arrived. My boyfriend gave a statement and we stayed at the scene for about an hour. We were deeply affected and saddened by what we witnessed, we had been traveling behind the driver westbound when my boyfriend saw it happen. Our prayers go to all those involved.

Everyone is talking about the helmets. Just because you have one on doesn't mean you will live. It helps with cuts and keeping your face in good shape. But your brain inside your skull goes back in forth in your skull that causes the damage of swelling. And that what kills people. Or your neck snaps yes in some cases the skull gets crushed not wearing a helmet. I will never wear one. Only going threw states that you have to. I feel for all the family's involved it's never easing to deal with when this happens.

My wife and I were first to arrive from the west, apparently following the bike. We too are upset and deeply affected by what we witnessed. Such a tragedy! Can't control the "other" driver, my bike will be for sale in the spring.
