At least 12 people were hurt Thursday when a school bus with children on board crashed and became lodged between two trees at an Anaheim golf course, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Orange Unified School District bus crashed near the Anaheim Hills Golf Course just before 3:40 p.m., officials said. Aerial video showed the bus appearing to be bent down the middle where it was leaning against a tree. The bus driver had to be pulled from the wreckage. Three people, including the bus driver, were in critical condition.
A motorist who struck a 17-year-old student on 58th Avenue at 6:30 a.m. Thursday has been cited for failing to stop for a school bus, according to a Indian River County Sheriff’s spokesman. The bus was stopped and its lights were on and a sign was out when the student was attempting to cross 58th Avenue, at 42nd Street, to get to the bus, police said. Emergency officials said the female student was talking before she was taken to the trauma center at the Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute, Fort Pierce, emergency officials said.
Authorities are questioning several people to determine who was driving a car that struck and killed a 3-year-old San Mateo boy. Morgan Wallace Calaway died Tuesday night after he somehow escaped from a family member's home and wandered into the street. Florida Highway Patrol officials said he was struck by a white Honda. Authorities found the car a few miles away after the accident.
