Two people have died in a head-on collision on Sunset Boulevard west of Rocklin. A CHP spokesman said the crash occurred about 5:15 p.m. three miles west of Fiddyment Road.

A chain-reaction crash that killed a woman and mangled seven cars may have been triggered by a suspected drunk driver. The incident occurred at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Vanalden Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Monday. Police say the driver of a silver car likely triggered the wreck, and alcohol and speed may have contributed to the accident.

A 37-year-old woman died Monday morning in a traffic crash on the Sam Houston Parkway in southeast Houston. The wreck happened about 5:50 a.m. in the 6000 block of the service road of eastbound South Sam Houston Parkway near Mykawa, according to the Houston Police Department. Police said the woman was sitting a stalled blue Toyota Camry in the eastbound lane of the roadway when a black GMC Sierra pickup, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, hit the car. The woman, who was wearing her seat belt, died at the scene. The pickup driver stopped.

Port St. Lucie Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 43-year-old man Monday night. Police said that Russell Irwin was driving his yellow 2013 Corvette north on SE Airoso Boulevard at the intersection of SE Pisces Terrace. Investigators said Irwin, who was traveling at a high rate of speed, left the road and struck several mailboxes and a large palm tree before rolling the vehicle several times and striking a pole. St. Lucie County Fire Rescue crews said Irwin died at the scene of the wreck. Homicide investigators are trying to determine the cause.

Speed and weather appeared to play a role in a crash that left five teenage girls injured -- two of them critically-- in Orange County late Saturday, officials said. Authorities responded just before 11 p.m. when a 2006 Mercury C230 hit a curb, went up an embankment and struck a tree on Melinda Road in Rancho Santa Margarita, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and Orange County Fire Authority. Preliminary investigation shows that slick weather and high speed may have contributed to the crash, officials said.

A man was charged in connection with a crash that killed one man and seriously hurt three other people early Friday in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side. Ivery Isom, 22, of the 6100 Block of South Rhodes, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of ammunition without a valid FOID card and possession of a laser sight accessory, police said.

A Mechanicsburg teenager was arrested Thursday night after police in Upper Allen Township said the 16-year-old was found driving under the influence of drugs in a hit-and-run crash. The incident occurred around 8:25 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Meadow Drive. A BMW Sedan, which was located by police several blocks away, struck a curb and caused property damage in the area of the crash. The sedan also sustained disabling damage in the incident.

7-year-old girl was killed and her mother was seriously injured Tuesday when an out of control sports utility vehicle hit the two on a Dorchester sidewalk, Boston police said. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Olivia Mora, of Concord, N.H., will face charges of motor vehicle homicide and driving under the influence, police said. The incident happened on Olney Street about 2:15 p.m., as the girl and her mother were walking from the Holland Elementary School, just a block away, according to police.

A baby girl was killed in a fiery crash on a Westchester highway Tuesday morning when the vehicle she was in, driven by her father, slammed into a tree, police say. The 24-year-old father appeared to be speeding alongside another car on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers when he veered from the right lane across two lanes of traffic, went up an embankment and struck the tree shortly before 11:30 a.m., just south of the Jackson Avenue exit, Yonkers and state police said.

Authorities in south Phoenix say two people died in a single-car wreck early Sunday morning. A young couple in their mid-20s died in a rollover crash near Laveen Sunday morning. A Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman said a little after 4 a.m. the driver of a white Lexus in the northbound lanes of 51st Avenue lost control and rolled the car several times. A man and a woman, both in their 20's, died at the scene.
