A 19-year-old Wisconsin man is dead after a single-vehicle crash on New Year’s Day. The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 1600 block of Highway A in Richmond, Wis., around 5:18 a.m. Wednesday. Officials say 19-year-old Taylor Casey of Hudson was driving southbound on the highway when he lost control of the Mercedes Benz SUV and went into a ditch, rolling the vehicle. Casey was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office says he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time. His passenger, 19-year-old Antonio Bloomquist of Hudson, was not injured.

A man was struck by a semi-trailer on Interstate 39 in Milton Wednesday morning, apparently after leaving his vehicle to retrieve a piece of luggage. The crash in Rock County happened at about 10:50 a.m., according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The severity of the victim's injuries are not known. All lanes around the site of the crash are now open, according to the department.

Emergency workers in La Crosse have recovered a body from a car that broke through the ice on a creek. The driver was the only person in the car. A bus driver called dispatchers Wednesday about 1:30 a.m. when he noticed tire tracks leaving the street and heading over a bank toward Swift Creek. The vehicle plunged down a 40-foot embankment but the ice didn't immediately break. The vehicle headed a little south on the ice before breaking through into the water. Rescue divers found the vehicle submerged in 6 to 8 feet of water. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday in Madison.

A 24-year-old Illinois man was killed Monday in a two-vehicle crash in Iowa County. Leander R. Vethanayagamony, of Bolingbrook, Ill., was traveling east on Highway 18 about 11:30 a.m. when he was hit by a Dodge Grand Caravan, according to the Iowa County Sheriff's Office. The van was driven by Sally A. Brownell, 60, of Linden, who was traveling west on Highway 18 when she went off the right shoulder. She overcorrected, losing control of her vehicle and spinning into the eastbound lane, where she hit the oncoming car, a new release stated.

A series of crashes on I-43 in Waukesha County forced the closure of the northbound lanes for part of Sunday morning as the turn toward colder weather makes for slippery roads in southeast Wisconsin.

The crashes around 8:40 a.m. Sunday closed the highway northbound at Moorland Road in New Berlin, the state Department of Transportation said, and the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department is investigating.

The DOT said just after 10 a.m. that the northbound lanes had reopened.

A Michigan man was killed Friday in a snowmobile accident in Columbia County, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The accident was reported about 1 p.m. near Cambria, and speed and snow conditions may have been factors in the accident, according to the DNR.

Authorities in Washburn County on Friday reported that numerous vehicles have broken through icy, snow-covered lakes, including one incident in which the driver died of exposure after walking away from the vehicle. Edward Steinhardt, 30, of Naperville, Ill., was found Friday about a half mile south of Dilly Lake in Potato Creek, according to the Washburn County Sheriff's Office. Steinhardt was an employee of a St. Louis business and had been reported missing along with a company truck Thursday.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested in Appleton Thursday after police say she drove while drunk, ran a red light and crashed into a pickup truck, leaving one person with life-threatening injuries. The crash occurred about 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Kensington Drive and E. College Ave. The 72-year-old Green Bay man driving the truck was injured, but is expected to recover. The female driver and two of her passengers, a 22-year-old Appleton man and a 56-year-old Neenah woman, were injured in the crash. The Neenah woman's injuries were described as life-threatening.

A Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputy responding to a crash on I-94 was injured when a driver behind him lost control around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the sheriff's department.

The deputy, with 16 years on the force, was treated at a hospital for back and neck pain, according to a news release, which does not name the deputy or the hospital.

A driver traveled the wrong way for 2.3 miles on Interstate 794 over the Hoan Bridge early Saturday until he crashed into a three-foot median wall just north of Carferry Drive, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said Saturday. Deputies said that after Edward Deshazer of Cudahy drove a 2007 white Ford Expedition onto I-794 at Lincoln Memorial Drive multiple squads responded to a call that came in about 2 a.m. from a construction worker. Deshazer was cited for driving while intoxicated, a first offense, and recklessly endangering safety, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
