Just before 10:00pm, a 45-year-old man driving on Highway 20 crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old man head-on. Both drivers sustained multiple fractures in the collision, but the 45-year-old man was knocked unconsious and had injuries that were considered life-threatening, while the 18-year-old man was conscious but still in serious condition. According to authorities, 15-year-old Summer Ungerank of Pocahontas was killed when the 2008 Chevrolet Aveo she was riding in ran off of Bellview Road at a high speed, struck a tree, and overturned. The accident happened at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Randolph County. Two other teen girls in the vehicle, ages 16 and 14, recieved unknown injuries in the accident. An 18-year-old was driving on McIlwain Road near Heath Springs around 11 p.m. Sunday, when he ran off the right side of the road, over corrected, and struck a tree. A 19-year-old male was driving on US 36 when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a wall, and then a tree. He sustained fatal injuries. No one else was involved in the accident.
