A man trying to cross Highway 101 on foot was struck by a car and killed late Friday night in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A man trying to cross Highway 101 on foot was struck by a car and killed late Friday night in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim, Christopher Codee Tarsky, 20, of Santa Cruz, was in the southbound lane south of North First Street, walking from the median toward the right shoulder. As cars swerved to avoid him, he began running. He ran into the path of a Honda Accord, landing in a right lane. As the Honda pulled to the shoulder, a sport-utility vehicle struck the man and did not stop. A second SUV also hit Tarsky, left the freeway but returned. Tarsky was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigation of the accident caused the closure of all southbound lanes for about two hours.
