A 64-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car early Wednesday while trying to cross a street near Alameda's South Shore Shopping Center, police said.

A 64-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car early Wednesday while trying to cross a street near Alameda's South Shore Shopping Center, police said. The victim, who was later identified as Carol Weston, was crossing Otis Drive and heading toward the shopping center when she was hit by a minivan heading east about 4:50 a.m., said the Alameda police. The woman died at the scene. She was not in a crosswalk, police said. The two men in the minivan stopped after the crash and were cooperating with police. The circumstances leading up to the crash are under investigation.
