Both girls had been struck and were evaluated by paramedics. Witnesses told officers the 9‑year‑old might have been initially knocked unconscious, but she was talking prior to heading for the hospital, police said. The younger girl didn’t appear to have injuries but was also sent to the hospital as a cautionary step, Lowenthal said.
